Empire Games Table

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

This a Victorian piece often called a ” Games Table”, after its use to hold popular game pieces under its folding top. Tables of this style dates from the second quarter of the 19th Century and are in what’s referred to as the “Empire Style”. Furniture of this type
makes heavy use of “S” and “C” shaped scrolls in the legs, feet and shelf supports and decorative use of mahogany veneers. Today Empire Revival furniture is not a popular as other Victorian period styles produced at the same time, so values tend to be modest even if the piece is in very good condition.
